With a pumpkin weighing a whopping 2,261 pounds, 35-year-old Jessica Rodgers carefully carved its surface with intricate designs inspired by the iconic painting “Starry Night” by Vincent van Gogh. The sprawling carving featured swirling clouds, distant stars, and the recognizable cypress tree. The carving took Rodgers over 100 hours, spread over the course of three weeks. She meticulously used various carving tools to create the intricate details and bring the masterpiece to life. “It was an incredible challenge,” said Rodgers. “But I’m so proud of the final result. It’s an honor to have my work recognized and to be a part of this historic event.” The annual contest, held in Keene, New Hampshire, draws pumpkin carvers from around the globe. This year’s competition saw over 50 entries, with Rodgers’ pumpkin standing head and shoulders above the rest. Judge and renowned pumpkin carver, Ray Villafane, described Rodgers’ creation as “a true work of art.” “The level of detail and precision is simply astonishing,” said Villafane. “It’s a testament to Jessica’s incredible talent and dedication.” Rodgers’ record-setting pumpkin is now on display at the Keene Pumpkin Festival, where visitors can marvel at its intricate design and appreciate the extraordinary skill that went into its creation. The contest victory not only brings Rodgers a coveted place in pumpkin carving history but also a $50,000 prize. She plans to use some of the winnings to purchase a new carving studio, where she hopes to continue honing her craft and inspiring others.
