St. Louis Symphony Orchestra Celebrates Grammy NominationSt. Louis Symphony Orchestra Celebrates Grammy Nomination The prestigious St. Louis Symphony Orchestra (SLSO) has earned a nomination for the 65th Annual Grammy Awards in the category of “Best Orchestral Performance.” The nomination is for their acclaimed recording of Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 2 in C Major, conducted by Music Director Stéphane Denève. The SLSO’s performance of Schumann’s symphony, recorded live at Powell Symphony Hall in 2021, has been praised for its “exemplary balance and pacing” (Gramophone Magazine) and “a breathtaking journey of emotion and musicality” (Classical Music). Music Director Stéphane Denève expressed his gratitude for the nomination, stating, “This is a testament to the extraordinary talent and dedication of the SLSO musicians. It is a great honor to be recognized by the Recording Academy and to share our music with the world.” SLSO President and CEO Marie-Hélène Bernard added, “This nomination is a source of immense pride for our orchestra and for the St. Louis community. It is a reflection of the SLSO’s commitment to artistic excellence and its unwavering support for classical music.” The 65th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony will take place on February 5, 2023, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. The SLSO will be competing against renowned orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic and the Vienna Philharmonic. The nomination marks the SLSO’s 12th Grammy nomination to date. The orchestra has won two Grammy Awards in the past, for its recordings of Leonard Bernstein’s “Mass” and Aaron Copland’s “Appalachian Spring” and “Billy the Kid.” The SLSO’s Grammy-nominated recording of Schumann’s Symphony No. 2 is available on CD and streaming platforms. The orchestra continues to perform a wide range of classical and contemporary works at Powell Symphony Hall and on tour.
