Detroit Symphony Orchestra Unveils “Maestro for a Day” ContestDetroit Symphony Orchestra Unveils “Maestro for a Day” Contest Detroit, Michigan – The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) has announced an exciting new contest that gives music lovers the chance to take the podium and lead the renowned ensemble. The “Maestro for a Day” contest will award one lucky winner the opportunity to conduct the DSO during a special performance at Orchestra Hall. “We are thrilled to offer this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to our community,” said DSO Music Director Jader Bignamini. “This contest will not only foster a deeper appreciation for classical music but also provide an unforgettable experience for the winner.” To enter the contest, participants must submit a video of themselves conducting a piece of classical music. A panel of DSO musicians will judge the entries based on musicality, technical skills, and stage presence. The top ten submissions will be invited to participate in a live audition, where they will conduct a short piece with the DSO’s musicians. The winner of the contest will be announced in April 2023 and will have the honor of leading the DSO in a performance on May 14, 2023. The concert will feature a program of beloved classical works, including Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 and Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture. “We believe that music should be accessible to everyone,” said DSO President and CEO Anne Parsons. “This contest is a testament to our commitment to engaging with the community and inspiring a lifelong love of music.” Interested individuals can submit their video entries through the DSO’s website until March 10, 2023.
