Chicago’s Wrigley Field Grounded by Rare Bird CollisionChicago’s Wrigley Field Grounded by Rare Bird Collision Chicago’s iconic Wrigley Field was abruptly cleared and a game postponed on Tuesday evening after a rare bird collision with a high-flying drone. The incident occurred during the bottom of the fourth inning of the Chicago Cubs’ home game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. A large hawk, identified as a red-tailed hawk, was seen soaring high above the field when it suddenly collided with a small drone being used for aerial footage. The impact was so severe that both the hawk and the drone plummeted to the ground. The hawk appeared to be dazed and injured, while the drone was badly damaged. Ground crews and security personnel immediately rushed to the scene and cleared the stadium as a precaution. The game was suspended with the Pirates leading 4-1. “We’ve never seen anything like this before,” said Cubs spokesman Julian Green. “It’s a very rare occurrence, and we’re just glad no one was seriously hurt.” Animal control officers cared for the injured hawk and transported it to a local wildlife hospital for evaluation. The drone was also retrieved and taken into evidence. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the collision and if any safety regulations were violated. The Cubs-Pirates game was eventually resumed and completed on Wednesday afternoon with the Pirates winning 10-3. However, the rare bird collision served as a sobering reminder of the potential hazards posed by drones, wildlife, and the unexpected events that can occur even in the most iconic of sports venues.
