Saturday brought another scorching day, with temperatures reaching 97 degrees. While some relief is expected on Sunday, temperatures are forecast to remain in the high 80s. The extreme heat has had a significant impact on the city. Residents have been seeking refuge in air-conditioned spaces, and the demand for cooling centers has skyrocketed. City officials have opened several cooling centers throughout Baltimore, providing a respite from the oppressive heat. Health experts have warned of the dangers of heat-related illnesses, such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Heat-related emergencies have been reported, and residents are urged to take precautions to protect themselves. Baltimore City Health Commissioner Dr. Letitia Dzirasa urged residents to “stay hydrated, stay cool, and check in on your neighbors.” She advised people to avoid strenuous activity during the warmest hours of the day and to drink plenty of fluids.
